Default Para's movie reviews. This time, we revisit a 1987 favourite...

Robocop.

A movie that pretty much any male person growing up would have seen. The story of a Police Officer that gets completely gunned down by a bunch of cop-killers and transformed into a "Crime Prevention Unit" is well known amongst testosterone filled males.

Detroit is a corrupt, stagnant city in which the criminals that even criminals fear live. It is in this city that OCP (Omni Consumer Products) rules rules with an iron fist. Detroit has a police department, but it too is effectively owned by OCP...

Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) is a Police Officer who gets the thankless job of working in Old Detroit after being transferred there from Metro South, a peaceful division. On his first shift in Old Detroit, Murphy is cornered by Clarence Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) and his bunch of psychotic gun-toting madmen. Obviously, one cop vs. a bunch of psycho cop-killers means that Murphy comes out of this encounter second best, and due to a contract OCP has with the police department, Murphy undergoes a cybernetic change...

For sheer violent comic book style action, you really can't beat Robocop. Having been made so long ago, it comes from an era where violence in movies wasn't really an issue. As a result, this movie has enough violence to keep even the psychos out there happy.

Oh, and there were two sequels made..Robocop 2, and the imaginatively titled Robocop 3. Two sucked, 3 was worse. Then there was the really cruddy tv series, then a few telemovies...dammit, they should have just left it with the
movies.

Anyway, I'll give Robocop a 3 out of 5 (Mojo's Monkey).
