HERO Gona
Sorry everyone but I must depart on a fabulous Journey to see the wild and forbidding Mothballs. That’s right because of badly timed events I must leave my home of 17 years and live for 4 horrendous weeks at my grand parents place (NOOOOoooooooooo ). It will be a true survivor, much like living in the Stone Age. e.g. No Internet, No Computer, No Cable TV, No Double Bed.
A living hell. So I will be out of contact with you all and be unable to play Friday nights for around a month. But never fear I shall return. Be good and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do ( there isn’t much I wouldn’t do ) |

And on a seriouse note, Im gonna miss you mate *hugs, kiss, bags, shotgun* we're going to miss you, even more so since you make up 1/4th of the friday fun night server... |

yer hero, we sure r gonna miss u on both tue and fri nights
i won't be able to play he_glass until u return u know, cos it's not quite the same w/o u but a month is ok, we can survive - but what about YOU!!! u really will be living in the stone age for a month - still it's great of your grandparents to put u up, and it could be a really good experience for both u and for them - grandparents could be really to learn from at this stage of your life.... especially grandads.... i never had a grandad, and i always felt so ripped off! i did have a grandad-in-law when i was married to my ex, and that was great indeed, but he was in that distant land called brisbane and we only got to see him once a year i hope u have a good time tho hero, and we'll keep your seat warm for you see u friday night tho i hope - for your last time for a few weeks

#9

i'm living with my perants there. its not so bad now i was able to set up my pc in the one room in the house which isn't getting renavated. and i run a LONG network cable so i got the net
#10
is the network cable so long that it connects to your normal spot in your house?
#11
lol not really i'm only in the next room. so its only like 3M long.
#13
Geez, rem, I would of thought with a network cable that long you would loose heaps of data Integrity?!
I thought that cables had a maximum lenght of RJ45 cable was limited to like 25 meters?! or are you using Coax? (spelling) Conclusion... It must be a very good quality cable with extra sheilding |

100m for ethernet cable

Depends if it's 10baseT, 10base2, 10base5, 10baseF, 10base36 . . . . If your talking Ethernet-802.3
And TISM's question of the day for the helpdesk nerdz is "What is the maximum cable length for 802.11G?"

802.11G - thats wireless smart-ass
the signal it's self can go up to appox. 10km away (only with sat. dish). The signal carring cabel (from antenna to in-put device) can be up to 9m away, but only for good quality cable. |
#17
oh and after that 9m's you need an signal strenghthener, that will give you another 9m's to play with. you could allso daisy chan them, to get the desired length

i think the cable i used has a max length of 100m like slaide said, but the ethernet standard for coax is about 500m i think - whatever it is, it's HUGE! and evidence, no i don't have any data problems with my LAN - you've played here before (ok, 10mbps is slow, but it works!)
when the next gen of wireless comes out (the gen with proper security) i may consider using it to ensure my LAN isn't slowing my cable connection at all.... just depends on money .... then again..... fibre to the home..... mmmmmmm.....

Working in IT, I'm sure it's interesting some of the time. But my god, I wouldn't want to do it.

lol hero, u can't get a degree in network admin.... u get a bachelor of engineering, or science, or info tech, that sort of thing.... network admin is v narrow - maybe u can get a certificate.... like a Novell CNE (Certified Network "Engineer" - which really isn't an engineer at all tho )
degrees take 3 to 4 yrs to get, certificates take maybe 1yr or less u could prolly get a "Dummy's Guide to Networking" or something to learn quickly, or tinker on your own home setup
