Anyone got a 1.1Ghz PIII (not Celeron)?
I'm wanting to upgrade the CPU on my CS/CZ server to the max speed my mobo can handle - so if anyone has a 1.13 or 1.1Ghz PIII Coppermine (not Celeron or Tualatin), or can suggest where I might be able to get one cheaply, please let me know. The current CPU is a 900 Celeron, and I've tested already and found the 1.1 should give heaps better performance. (Don't laugh - the server runs OK, and the hardware was put together on a shoe string budget 2 yrs ago ) Of course, if anyone has a better PC they'd like to donate as the server, that would be good too

aaaah u asked these Q's in the server last night, but for the benefit of others, my server mobo can only handle up to a 1.13 Ghz coppermine PIII. To get a current CPU, I'd have to replace mobo and RAM, and that costs more $$$ than I can manage at the moment.
the server runs 512Mb, and that is sufficient to prevent constant swapping and always have some spare physcial RAM, so RAM is not the bottleneck. Actually, I have done a lot of work, and testing, to understand what the bottleneck is (with Gomer's help too), and I have replaced my net card with a new gigabit card (and updated my LAN as well), which has helped reduce CPU a bit, especially when the net traffic rises with more players, but my poor little CPU is just too small.... but ping booster has helped make performance acceptible I think unless there's like 8 ppl and 20 bots - then it starts to lag a bit. I hope to have the use of a 3.2GHz P4 for june 11 tho - so on that friday night I'll run all the biggest maps and have heaps of bots and see how that goes I'll only have the PC for a few days tho

well, seems like I can't get a 1.1 Ghz PIII coppermine
tried on ebay for weeks, and trading post, and some very good second hand places best i've been able to do is stick in a 866 PIII, and overclock it to 950 - seems stable (just) and works a fair bit better oh, and i did use that 3.2Ghz P4 for a weekend, and it was awesome as a cs/cz server (had 20 bots and 12 humans in dust2 and cpu was still under 15 % utilisation!!!!! no lag that friday night!!!)

WOOOHOOOOO new financial year, new job, now new mobo and cpu for server - it's now a 2.8G P4 - 30 bots in dust2 and no spikey lag!!! CPU doesn't go much above 30% - i'm in heaven
(k, not quite in heaven yet.... cs:source doesn't support bots yet.... and cs:source seems to have rather a few bugs to do with object handling - pretty funny seeing a 44 gallon drum rolling through, not over, a besa brick!)
