General Raedeon 9700 & BF1942

Hi.

I have three machines set up and they all run shit house.

Machine 1)
Radeon 9700
1 GIG DDR 333
Athlon 2000
Epox 8k5a2+
1100 / 800 (Approx Res) 80 FPS FAA=2 AA=0, all graphics up

Machine 2
Radeon 9700
Intel 2.5
500 meg DDR 333
ASUS P48S
8 x AGP
1100 / 800 (Approx Res) 72 FPS FAA=2 AA=0, all grahpics up

Machine 3
Leadtek 4600 TI
Intel 1.6
512 SDRAM 133
800 / 600 Res, 29 FPS FAA=0, AA=0 Medium graphics

I have had many problems getting the ATI cards to work, i have had to install serveral drivers. One the intel 2.5 machine i can only get AGP 2, even though it supports AGP 8.

On the Athlon Machine, i can get fast writes to work.

On the Intel 1.6 machine it runs like a dog.

Have you guys had problems with this game and the Raedon, also what performance to you get using geforce cards ?.

Regards

Fook

Make sure you have sound set to 22khz Fooku.

44khz is buggy in the engine and will cause EXTREME Problems. Putting it to 22khz sound will generally fix this.

Otherwise your problems are wierd - shady and rza were running bf1942 on 750mhz p3's with gf2 cards (though poorly) - so your comps should have no probs - and my xp 1700 has no probs what so ever.

My XP2000, GFTi4400, 512MB 333Mhz runs OK. (I don't know how to display fps in BF1942)
I can even run the game on my PIII 733Mhz, 128MB, GF2 PC. (very slowly - but it was our first server for up to 4 ppl)

I've read about problems with the Radeon 9700, but I think that was when trying to run at AGP8x (see Atomic magazine).

I can do it now if I want, but I'm waiting until about end of year because of:

1. new nVidia cards may be out
2. Serial ATA drives may be out

new nvidia cards will either Not be out or be so expensive that it's not worth it

Serial ATA drives are slow in coming - market doesn't know what to do with its excess ATA drives yet

the ATI cards will make sure nvidia prices their new stuff right - aaah competition.

I think S-ATA drives are starting to appear at trade shows. If they're not out by end of year, I might bite the bullet and just upgrade anyway.

Yeah i'll be waiting for prices to drop and the new technologies to become a bit more established.

Probably won't be till about march next year before I upgrade - depending on when these next generation cpus come out - taking so long to go from 32 to 64 bit!

To display the FPS, in the console type Console.showfps 1.

I have found out why my radeon config is running shit house, its my USB lan card, believe it or not. My USB 2.0 controller is sharing the same interrupt with the video card, also the USB lan card does not provide a hardware ehernet controller, its all software.

As for my older PIII1.6/TI4600 i am completely baffled why that is running poorly.

Thau, i suspected sound, so i disabled all sound, even removed the drivers and sound cards, no improvement.

Regards

Fook
