Default Steam & CS1.6

steam is out now, and 1.6 with it - so are you running 1.6 now?

how about the ozgl CS servers? if they're not running 1.6, when will they be?

do u guys want me to update my little bot server to 1.6 for this friday?

i checked out a couple of AWESOME FAQ posts in the GA forums in the CS section just now, and I have to check out a heap of things on my system to make sure i get the best performance.... this is what I found most useful - thought I'd post it in case it helps anyone else

cs 1.6 has its own bots - i got no idea how good they are tho

unfortunately we have no choice about steam - it is required to run cs 1.6 and hl2 etc etc, so if u wanna play new versions of HL and it's mods u have to install steam. Also, once u install steam, you can't connect to a cs 1.5 server

that means if i update my server to 1.6, ppl running 1.5 can't play, but if i don't update it, then ppl running 1.6 can't play..... GA has some servers of both types, and is moving to 1.6, but is keeping old versions of the other mod's for the moment..... i dunno what ozforces is doing

i'm donwloading steam now (400 Mb from GA ) and depending on what u guys want, and my availability this week, i'll decide on whether or not i update to it

yay CS!!!

My first impressions of 1.6 is that it now really sucks.

The whole feel of the game play is different.

The new shields are one of the worst ideas to be added. I mean, an AK at point blank wont take out the player using it. You have to get behind them!

To be honest, It may be the release that sees me almost stop playing it.

There seems to be more headshots and they were a pain in the first place.

I may well take up DOD as my main on line game and join a DOD clan and stay with zero for CS on Friday nights.

yep, and that's a beautiful thing Slaide

once WON gets shut down tho, I won't be able to run a 1.5 server on the net any more.....

and THERE'S NO BOTS yet in 1.6 - they took them out of the release version (there were in the beta) but apparently they are due in another version of 1.6 (the "full" version) in 2 weeks or so.... so I'll be running my server on 1.5 until at least then (so long as WON holds out)

hey, does anyone know where the maps have gone? like can anyone find a *.bsp file in the new install?

and can two pc's be connected in a net game with the same login details?

I use Netspeed, Optus32DOD and Internode.

At the moment mostly Optus32, some how the lag seems to favor me and I frag heaps of mofos.

I watch some of these guys play and realise that most of them wouldnt last very long if it was real.

DOD is 60% thinking about whats going on and how to counter act and 35% knowing the weapon, the other 5% is all 'act of god'.

Im really inpressed with DOD now, it's come a long way since Valve brought the project out from the guys who started it.

well since NS is my main game i will keep it to only friday nights cs. but ive heard from others that 1.6 is crap so i think you should keep it at 1.5.
p.s. steam is also crap apparently. it definantly sounds it.

i have heard from ppl on noob (HA HA) servers that they think its crap also, how ever i have alot of friends (long time cs players) that have installed it and they think its great, the new guns and shield bring something new to it because cs was starting to get boring. and also aparently the grafics are better.

any comments on the new sig?

lol u change sig more frequently than u change underwear

the login business I think is to ensure that logins are actually unique - based on a vaild e-mail addie, so that only one person with that e-mail name can be logged on at a time. I had the same login set on 2 PC's of mine, and both seemed to be able to play at the same time, but it caused grief with "expired sessions" and only one PC could be involved in a Chat at any given time - so now I've set the 2 PC's on diff e-mail names

I personally think Steam is bloody awsome. The way you can chat to friends via steam in game, and see what servers they are playing in, makes it very easy to track each other

ya lego i have heard many good things,
but for some reason its amazing how ppl can have a large mix of oppinions like alot of ppl say its the worst thing valve could have done and that its terrable that it crashes all the time, also that it doesn't take into account ppl on dial up. the speed for ppl on dial up is terrable aparently.
but i assume ppl are complaining because they haven't been bothered upgrading pc's becuase that was all they needed to run CS but now because of steam they need more pwoerful pc's which gives them the shits lol
