Seagate Hard Drives: Predecessors and Successors...
Guys
I been doing some research on buying a few Seagate hard drives. I was at EYO and saw that they have the Seagate Barracuda's in the IV and the newer V series but my question is... What makes the IV and the V series different because to me they seem bascially identical. Thanks guys.... |

most seagate IV's will want to be masters of older drives but when running with another one the same they are fine =p |

I did check the Seagate site and brought up information on both the IV and V series drives and from what I saw they are both pretty much identical.
The only diference between the 2 was that the V wthat the V was faster in access time by 1 tenth but come on. Is that truly a reason for a manufacturer to bring out a new product if 1 tenth is the only added feature? Also I don't understand what you said in your previous post by IV want to be masters of older drives etc etc.... I need Benz or Rag.... |

The IV Wasn't fully compatiable with Serial ATA so they released the V. They cut off the IV Because it would have ment more plant space etc, so they just now have a serial and parallel version of the Barracuda V. The V also has better shielding. |

I see.
So let me just paraphase what you just have said Benz. IV are being phased being that there were issues with them in regards to being 100% compatable with the SATA standard. V are the successors to the now sorta obsolete IV and V also come in to different flavoured. You can either buy them in:
