Forcing Steam to use decent content servers!
I've had major problems in updating via steam over the past 2 weeks.... so much so that the last 2 Friday night fun nights have been stuffed. Tonight I found the cause - it's cos Internode sucks! My steam client has been trying to get content from internode - which is INCREDIBLY SLOW and usually times out. Being bigpond, I should be using the GA content servers, and the CS legend "whisper" has researched this problem and found a way to force bigpond people to use the GA content servers http://whisper.ausgamers.com/steam/content.htm
Now the updates happen at the lighting speed they should.... like 5Mbps, so no more sucky steam update problems for me If anyone else is having this problem too, then try the fix in the above!

hehehe
i guess it the interface between Bigpond and Internode that's the real problem - i suspect it's more to do with competition and politics than a straight technical problem
