sorry let me breath

No, you really wouldn't. Modern day HDD's max out at about 30MB/s, SATA, ATA100 or ATA133. So you want to do 4 HDDs? say 100MB/s MAX (not counting for master/slave problems), and the more hdds in there the more chance of the raid collapsing and you losing all your data... go talk to blyth =P

As for video card prices, auspcmarket is good, its a very respectful operation, and is fantastic, although
1. it's in sydney, I always suggest people buy products from their own city so that if you need warranty on the product you don't have massive problems getting it, and the length of time between returning the faulty product and getting a fixed one back is minimal.
2. It can be ALOT more expensive than other stores, in Sydney, there are 3 major online stores, www.eyo.com.au , www.umart.com.au , & www.auspcmarket.com.au some of auspcmarkets products are the same low price as that of eyo & umart, but others are VERY much more expensive.

Shop around the online/retail/markets in Melbourne if your going to buy anything.

ROFLMAO! ha ha... ***cough, cough*** geez, I didn't wanna get technical! but...

Pfft! Yes, you are *cough*semi-*cough* right, but! HDD manufactures say that ATA33 has a Thoretical 'Burst' (at end of platter) transfer rate of appox 33Mb per second... (***thinks***erm... SHIT! I cant remember if it was Mega-Bytes or Mega-Bits...shit... but anywhich way I use Mb Im still correct ) and same gose with ATA66, ATA100 and ATA133, or SATA33!!! so Thereticaly if what they say is true, then, I can get 532mb/s under raid '0' with 4 HDD, at the end of a platter at a "burst"

Yes it is true about the 'More HDD you have the fast they will fall' Thats why you need a very good PSU, Identical HDD's (yes, i know, but still, some people can be very stupid somtimes), and make sure you scan for bad sectors atleast one a month, all tho if you were running a small web server (or somthing like that) I would set up 4 HDD's on RAID '0', and a PCI RAID setup, and have another 4 HDD's on RAID (erm, i cant remember, i think it either "1"? "2"? or "5"?) mirroring those 4 HDD's on RAID '0' (and allso having it timed so it backs up the differences, every 10 mins or so.) that way, you can never loose your data, and if you do, it will be very little! But either way, your still right in what you say.

Oero, tell me, whats the difference between, Serial and Parallel? Then explain why Serial is better than parallel, for HDD usage... And if you dont read Atomic, I will be very impressed, if you get it right...

Then after that, put on some glasses, put your finger on your temple, and say that famouse quote from Homer J. Simpson, "The sqaure root of a side on an isosceles triangle equals the square root, of the two remaining sides..."

Oh, and thank you Oreo, for the shopping tips, the'll come in handy some time soon

Plz mind any spelling mistakes, I was in a rush, and was unable to think right.

cheers,
Elad

elad - we should do BYO meat, food & drink - so u just have to provide the venue and BBQ

twice yearly is good, but not this august cos i am "unavailable"

for e-mail addies.... i did send an e-mail to all ZERO's a week or so ago - with details of my upcoming wedding service did u get that e-mail? i think i sent it to maybe your mbox or hotmail addies - if u have a new e-mail then let me know what it is, and i'll send another team e-mail so u get all the addies

elad - if u want to use 4 HDD's - use RAID 3 - if u have 4x120Gb drives, then the data is striped across the lot, and u end up with 360Gb storage, and a correction bit such that if one fails then you can hot swap it and lose no data at all!!!!

using 4 HDD's on RAID 0 would be somewhat silly

well... RAID 3?! never heard of it before... i only heard of "0/1/4/5/10" (methinks...) i can't remember the atomic artical that well...

But what I ment, is that with my RAID controler, I have the ability of, two HDD's both raided on a thing like "0" but I can be set that it gose over 4 drives... me dont know what it's realy called... all I know is that it's like "0"

***slaps silver***

Silver! get a hold of your self man! BBQ + LAN = Need's Venue, Right? Venue = 'My Place', Ok silver? you got that? good. Since it's my parents place, and I am the son of the owner's... I 'want' to invite the following.... Zero Clan + Ex-zero-members + YOU (yes thats you SS) + one or two of my mature High School Friends. + any other people who the zero clan invites...

So... to make sure you understant SS, you have allready, been Pre-Selected by the 'Venue Provider' to go to the 'Zero LAN Fest 2003'

and since I am the venue provider, no one outside the "organising commity*", can argue with my judgements, if they do... well then... they wont be happy at the LAN day

*note, if the LAN day gose ahead then I will call apon some of my most trusted zero friends to help me in my ways...

alltho when it come down to the day, I dont want any 'special' privlages, all i'll be doing in laying down the house rules, and if they get broken, i'll step in...

so me wont be bossy over what maps and games and stuff we play....

me tired, me not thinking, me just rambling... will fix up any errors/ramble's tomorow......

And Xena? me not get email, Email is, [email protected], but tell me that you have sent it on the day you send it... if it makes any sence....

And august = "unavailable", gotcha

I'll come for the BBQ, but I cant lan. And Lilydale station is as far as i can get via public transport and you live ages away from there . So I guess SS and I will need a lift from there.

Chris, just incase you are wondering, i have asked mum allready about having a lan day / bbq at our place... ask your self if you must...

Im only throwing some idea's around at the moment... nothing is set yet.

just so the zero's know, err.... the family and I are having conflict at the moment, thats why me and Ripper are a bit 'iffy' at the moment... but he's still my brother, and I still love him as a brother, no matter how he feels about me. Same with the rest of the family, even though I dont show it much...

I agree rem, I believe zero is awsome social clan...

/me feels like im standing in a pile of horse manure...

Anyways, back to the original topic....

DH: um... I do not encourage alcohol consumption at the Lan/BBQ because I dont want any 'pissed' blokes sumbling around my place causing fights. But to get the full info about it i'll have to ask my parents about it, but im guessing the'll say, "no minours, and no excessive drinking"

but yeah, have to ask parents, will post details about it later.
