Attention! Desert Combat

No I'm not talking about the war, don't whatever you do mention the war . . .

I'm talking about the bf1942 mod, all the antiquated ww2 stuff being replaced by modern weaponry and vehicles. I have to say it's VERY well done, even the apache chopper seems very authentic. Very hard to fly but will hand a group of 5 tanks their asses in very short order, though a Mig29 will rip it to shreds(along with everything else).

Still could do with some improvement (eg. the axis REALLY need an attack chopper and the Mig needs to be nerfed a bit) but IMO its even more fun than regular bf1942.

Anyone play it?

Was just playing on internode with TISM, just after he jumped into the gunners chair of the apache my connection decided to bomb out. Hope his landing wasn't too painful

That apache rules! after a while the enemy stoped firing at me for fear of drawing attention to themselves

Yeah it does have some balance issues, though I'm told they will be adding a Hind attack chopper in the next update. The apache isn't invincible though, if the axis have air superiority then the apache's won't last long.

You can also get caught of guard by anti-aircraft fire (especially the mobile units), they can chew you up pretty quick if you don't get your missles away in time.

I don't have Road to Rome, I've been in 2 minds whether to get it or not.

Only played RTR in Single Player because for some stupid reason there doesn't seem to be any server (on GA anyway) with it?? Playing the maps in Single Player there are HEAPS of quality maps, all of them even are as good if not better than some of the originals! Ffs lol.

Desert Combat is good fun, but in a way I still prefer the WWII styles, but that's cause they've always been my favourite FPS (WWII era games) but will play more Desert Combat as I didn't play it for very long.

How much of us are still playing? I took a break from gaming for a bit due to study etc. but can't take it anymore - I played a bit of BF a few weeks ago again and loved it, can't stop playing it now. And the thought of playing in wars and having like a front-line attack and actually playing the game properly with team work just seems so good and was gonna say we should try and even get a practice war to get the hang of things as playing as a team. I could do some of the organising but only the weekends are really when I have the time for that. Aswell as Tuesday nights actually.

We'd need a few numbers though.

I still play bf,

there were 2 RTR servers, none of which were operated by GA, which had alot of people playing (17+ usually), however since the new patch 1.31 they don't appear to have returned,

which is a shame because IMO the RTR maps are better than any BF1942 default maps =(

One of GA's servers now says RTR ALL MAPS so I'm guessing it's playing every single map of BF including all RTR maps? Gonna jump on there when one of the RTR maps is going.
