Default ISDN - All systems GO.

Ok - Im now on ISDN 128Kbit/128Kbit (15KBytes/15KBytes) internet speed.

This is enough to dish out some CS punnishment to Oreo, SilverScope, and all the WHC crew.

Haveing ISDN completes the circle for me. Thats means I have been connected to Telstra Cable, Optus Cable, ADSL and now ISDN.

The only thing I havent had is that 100Mbit optic fiber, maybe oneday.

Nice that is.

I have to admit, getting 15KB is a world apart from the 3.5KB I was getting on the standard phone line.

At least with the 15K I can leech MP3's off the newsgroups.

ISDN is the way to go if you cant get ADSL.

It costs:
1) $125 to convert the line to ISDN.
2) $45 a month for phone line rental for 2 lines(Has to be 2)
3) $49 A month for ISP account = 128Kbit (15KB)
4) $0.17 cents per phone call to the ISP (2 lines = $0.34 to ISP)

I use a Data Over Voice method to connect to the net with a Cisco 803 ISDN Router - the modem can be the most expencive part of the set up cause they cost about $150 to $400 on ebay.

But if your screwed by telstra like i was, then its the best method.

Yes, It dose require a phone call but Telstra is now offering a package with ISDN that caps my DATA phone calls at $16.50p/m.

Normally its 30 cents per hour for DATA calls.

I avoided this by using a variation of ISDN called DOV (Data over Voice)

I have moved back to the DATA calls with that new product @ $16.50p/m.

I have noticed with 1.6 CS that my ping on some servers is sucking again.

On Ozforces it was about 80 now its up to about 100ms.

Its still early days for 1.6 and I think that the net is a little congested with 1 Million other mofo's trying to download 1.6.

wow that sounds good bly! $16.50 p/m on top on your regular ISDN service is a great deal!!!

evreyone's ping on ozgl5 has been very bad on tue and fri nights for weeks now - usually over 100, and often in the hundreds - it's been pretty bad and my own little server has been offering heaps better pings (around 80 if under 4 ppl). I suspect 1.6 may kill my server tho due to lack of bandwidth - but we'll see - i started installing 1.6 last night.... boy oh boy there's a lot to reconfigure with the server cos all the settings are default and i have to redo the configs

i figured that elad cos with 1.6 out now, all those mods will require a complete new install anyway! I just started looking into the mod situation last night - and i'm not sure how the mod's fit in yet (the default install doesn't have the config files to edit to put new mod's in, but i did find a really great tutorial on how to set up adminmod, statsme, etc (but not bots) http://picturepixel.homestead.com/Steam_Server.html and i'll use this to set up my server, then try out the plbots to see if they will still work (2 chances IMO, Buckleys and none!), but the real CS bots should be put back into 1.6 in about 2 weeks, and apparently these new bots are really good
