Default Maxtor OneTouch

My Maxtor OneTouch stopped being recognised as a USB device. Lights still come on and stuff. Anyone ever had this problem before with a similar external HD thing?

I wonder if anyone's even going to see this post. Maybe this can be my new porn forum.

Anything change recently, like have you added a firewall?

Tried plugging it into a different computer? Tried a different cable? Different USB slot?

Yeah I plugged it into another PC. Different cable. Different slot. I can't open it up to take a look or I void the warranty!

Then I have no idea; I've never opened one up so I don't know if it's a drive with a simple SATA or ATA connection, or something fancier.

If you want, bring it over to my place and I can see if I can get it going.

Hmmm you gonna open it up? It'll void my warranty.

No I won't open it, if you can stand to part with your data then get it replaced.

If you can't stand to lose your data, contact Maxtor and see what your options are.

Already contacted them about that, way too complicated to get the data restored. I'll just get it replaced.

Thanks Sam

I ended up opening the box to find out what was wrong. Looks like the actual drive is buggered, I hooked it up to my PC and it couldn't detect it.

Recommend any good data-recovery places?
